McCarthy is one of those writers who battles the gods of time and fate and any to those unaccustomed to the life a solitary man shares in the ways of the world, and McCarthy so does succeed in The Crossing (1994).
Vol. II of the Border Trilogy, The Crossing (1994), takes the reader on an extended journey with Billy Parham and so as the world changes for him so too the world is changed for the reader.
“In the end,” McCarthy writes (pg 156), “he said that no man can see his life until his life is done and where then to make a mending? It is God’s grace alone that we are bound by this thread of life.”
The Border Trilogy:
#2, The Crossing
